ReNew the Block is a multi-faceted, collaborative solution to rising housing costs and climate change in La Crosse. The project used green infrastructure to revitalize a
neighborhood in La Crosse with the goal of creating a blueprint for other communities. The Habitat team has been able to improve land management practices, environmental quality, biodiversity and quality of life simultaneously.
Their project has resulted in closer community ties in the impacted neighborhood as well as demonstrated how local schools can participate in neighborhood revitalization efforts. Within 10 years the project will have prevented 5.57 million gallons of runoff from entering the Mississippi River, provided 84,000 pounds of food for the local community and sequestered 2,280 tons of carbon!
